Career
Siddique Ismail worked predominantly in Malayalam cinema. He made his acting debut in Fazil’s Malayalam film “Nokkethadhoorathu Kannum Nattu” in 1984 opposite Mohanlal, Nadhiya Moidu & Padmini (one of the Travancore sisters).
After that, he started to work as an assistant director to film director Fazil. He made his directional debut along with Lal (M. P. Michael) in the Malayalam film “Ramji Rao Speaking” in 1989. Before his directional debut, he had made stories along with Lal for two Malayalam films titled “Pappan Priyappetta Pappan” & “Nadodikkattu”.
He received breakthrough success in 1991 with his film “Godfather” directed under the name Siddique-Lal, for which he received the Kerala State Film Awards. He continued work with Lal and gave several hit movies to the entertainment industry. He made a Tamil remake in 2001 for his Malayalam film “Friends“, which was directed individually and released originally in 1991. He made his Telugu directional debut with the film “Maaro” in 2005.
His 2010’s Malayalam film “Bodyguard” became a blockbuster in Indian cinema, for which he received several awards. The film was remade in 2011 in Tamil with the title “Kaavalan”, and in Hindi with the title “Bodyguard” and received the Zee Cine Awards in 2012.
He also produced two Malayalam films named “Fukri” in 2017, and “Big Brother” in 2020. Besides filmmaking, he appeared in several television shows as a Judge.
Death
He died on 08-08-2023 at the age of 63 at Amrita Hospital in Kochi. He suffered a heart attack on 07-08-2023 and was admitted to the Amrita Hospital in Kochi, where he took his last breath around 07:30 PM.
